OUR STORY
We’re the Kenton Pub & Community Group (KPCG): a passionate group of local volunteers on a mission to bring back our village pub, The Dolphin Inn, as a community-owned pub and hub.
Like so many of you, we miss having a place to meet, celebrate, and connect. Whether it’s a cuppa after a dog walk, a pint with friends, a community quiz night, or just a place to feel at home – we believe a pub is the beating heart of a village.
That’s why we’ve come together to form a Community Benefit Society (CBS) — a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Financial Conduct Authority.
We’re supported by local experts, national organisations like the Plunkett Foundation, and — most importantly — by you. Every event you attend, every quiz you join, every word of encouragement you give helps us edge closer to our goal.
This is about more than saving a pub. It’s about protecting our village spirit, creating a space for all ages, and ensuring Kenton continues to thrive for generations to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where are we now?
We are almost ready to purchase, so will be cashing in on share offers in the near future. We will then be actively fundaising and looking for volunteers’ help to restore and open the Dolphin.
How can I support the Dolphin Kenton?
You can support the Dolphin Kenton by purchasing shares, attending our fundraising events, volunteering, or making a direct donation. Every contribution helps us in our renovation efforts and strengthens our community ties.
What events do you hold?
We organise a variety of events including quiz nights, live music, and community gatherings. These events aim to raise funds for the pub’s renovation and foster community spirit. All upcoming events are on the Events page and in our events calendar.
What if we can’t raise enough?
A major fundraising push planned. Loans only as a last resort; additional grants will be pursued first.
How can I get in touch?
You can provide feedback through our contact form on the Contact page, or by emailing [email protected]
Will we be serving food?
Yes. Simple, good‑quality food initially (pizzas, pies, curries), plus daytime coffee and cakes. We will focus on local brewers and suppliers, good coffee and simple fresh food.
What are your plans for staffing?
There will be an employed manager supported by volunteers; a new operational committee will form once open.
What is next?
We still need to raise money to renovate, stock and furnish, so keep an eye out for lots of great fundraising events happening in 2026.
How can I stay updated on renovations?
You can subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on social media. We will also share updates, photos, and news about our progress and upcoming events on the website homepage.
MEET THE TEAM
Welcome to our fabulous Committee members

Jon Hare
Committee Chair
I’ve been running my own Photography business since 2006. Before that I worked in retail with a few years working in pubs and bars through College and Uni. I’ve already assisted in the renovation of a number of properties including two Pubs / Bars. I’ve been living in Kenton since 2015 and love being a part of this Community.

Jayne Archer
Committee Treasurer
Following 30 years’ sales experience and regional manager status, I had a very successful pet care and pet transport company for 15 years. Having sold that in 2024, I now have more time in the Village and am delighted to be involved with such a dynamic, eclectic group, with masses of energy to organise the purchase of a great community space.

Dave Everson
Committee Secretary
I’ve lived in Kenton since 1982, having married in the village church. In that time, I’ve served as treasurer and chairman of the village hall, and I currently chair the Kenton History society. My career was in IT programming then managing UK‑based IT security teams with international links. Since retiring, I’ve been working part‑time as a tour guide at Powderham Castle.

Andrew Bryant
Committee Vice Chair
I have over 30 years’ experience as a bid manager, managing multi-million pound bids. Before retiring, I was a self employed consultant offering business winning services across a range of sectors. I’m Devon born and bred, having grown up in Dawlish. We moved to Kenton in 2022.

Robin Calderwood
Committee Member
Having trained as a chef, I am now a primary school teacher and parish councillor. I am a strong advocate for a sense of community and lover of real ale.

Robin Searle
Committee Member
I have more than 25 years’ experience in hospitality – with festivals, events, brewing and the pub trade. Recently moved to Kenton and am loving it. Excited to find such a strong community here.
